CloudWalk Hosts Event to Explore Rust Use Cases

São Paulo, March 2025 – CloudWalk opened the doors of its São Paulo headquarters to welcome the developer community for the return of the Rust-SP meetup — one of the leading gatherings focused on sharing experiences and learning about the Rust programming language. The event brought together professionals to exchange real-world use cases, explore high-performance applications, and discuss the future of Rust in the tech ecosystem.

Thiago Scalone, CTO of CloudWalk, emphasized the importance of supporting tech communities, the role of Rust in CloudWalk’s technology stack, and the company’s commitment to open-source innovation.

"We strongly believe in Rust at CloudWalk. It was a fundamental element in building Stratus, our proprietary next-generation blockchain, marking a significant advancement in the company’s payment processing infrastructure," said Scalone.

Developed in-house by CloudWalk, Stratus can process up to 1,800 transactions per second (TPS) — a substantial increase over the previous capacity. With it, CloudWalk made a quantum leap in its processing power, transitioning from a limiting architecture to a solution that not only meets the fintech’s current needs but also positions it for exponential growth. Stratus introduced entirely new concepts to blockchain technology, such as data indexing and an optimized structure for data access — features not previously seen in other blockchains.

Another defining characteristic of Stratus is its open-source code, publicly available to encourage innovation and collaboration within the developer community. This approach supports global scalability by enabling integration with a wide range of technological and financial solutions.

The event agenda featured technical talks covering topics such as performance gains with Rust in production environments, structured concurrency, Diesel internals, atomics & locks, and even the use of Rust for real-time gaming on Solana. Beyond the sessions, the event created rich networking opportunities — reinforcing CloudWalk’s commitment to supporting initiatives that empower and grow the developer ecosystem.

In one of the presentations, Renan Florez, Head of Engineering at CloudWalk, explained how Rust and blockchain have been essential in boosting the company’s productivity. "Significant complexity combined with a lean team led us to adopt blockchain — a decision that proved highly successful," he stated.

The event kicked off at 9:30 AM and continued into the early afternoon. A packed house reflected the growing relevance of Rust and the power of in-person gatherings to drive knowledge sharing and collaborative innovation.
